There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling halls that sit just over the dividing line from nearby Thailand, in which casino betting is not allowed. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally tiny area in the metropolis of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in an excellent destination, a three to four hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few restrictions requirements for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mainly Thai; although, financial sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 17:00, and despite the fact visas are apparently required to pass, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia casinos opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving just 1 gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a docked barge gambling hall, highlights 150 slots and sixty tables. The Naga river boat never closes with 42 tables of mini-punto banco, 4 tables of chemin de fer, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in 1999 and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights three hundred slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety six table games, including eighty seven baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slots and sixty six of the normal tables, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international vacation and hotel complex that highlights numerous conveniences accompanying the gambling den, which has 10,000 sq.ft. of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and 88 gaming tables.
